CCDE preview at Network World

Network world has posted an article discussing the preview lab they saw for the upcoming CCDE.

You can view it here.

It appears to have caused a little discussion with a few CCIEs on the net, claiming it’s nothing but a paper certification now, because there’s no technicial config section the exam. WELL HELLO IT’S BASED ON NETWORK DESIGN not implementation! Infact there’s a big difference between the two, and for those that don’t understand and are getting a little worked up on what’s been previewed, no one will be forcing you to take it, so no need to worry.

New CCNA streams announced!

Cisco have recently announced new CCNA streams. The three new streams are:

CCNA Security

CCNA Voice

CCNA Wireless

These are to be the CCNA exam, plus and additional exam to attain CCNA in the valid stream. However this also impacts the two Voice and Security Professional Streams, as they now count towards the certification. From what I can gather it looks as if the extra stream is just recognition for starting the professional stream, as those will incorporate the CCNA stream exam.

Is Cisco looking at introducing a Wireless professional stream?

Also looks like some price increases for the CCxP exams.

Ammendium: Does this devalue the CCNA itself, as employers will now start asking for CCNA S/V/W instead of a veteran CCNA?

quicknote for readers

On either this blog or it’s parent site you will NOT find anything that will be considered a breach of any certification’s NDA or anything that will assist with completing an exam without doing any legitimate study ;)

Trust me, there’s no reason at all to take shortcuts to earn your certification, especially with the available material. Also the main site isn’t intended on being so certification specific only, more so about the technologies, the real life implementations, and how to develop a craft.

For the aspirationals, once you get out into the real world of networking you will understand this, as you really need to know your stuff, particulary if it’s considered the bread and butter of your work.

site updates

Finally started some work on some basic network knowledge for the site OSI model, also intend on doing the TCP/IP model as well. However, have been really busy real world wise and keeping up with my own study. I’ll probably keep updating as I go along – consider everything WIP always :p

News of IPv4 exhaustion breaking to the masses

  • Web designers planned for four billion addresses
  • They underestimated – badly
  • World will run out of internet addresses by 2010

THE world will run out of internet addresses by 2010, with only 700 million separate addresses remaining for allocation out of the 4.3 billion available on the present network.

I like the reference that Web designers developed IPv4, not the USDoD, and natually they underestimated the need of addresses due to the unforeseen commercialisation of the net!

added some tweaks to the QoS Calculator

Spent this evening adding some additional error handling, including some T&C option – Will look at adding additional features to this one in the future. For those looking it can be found here.

Still working on a functional subnet calculator as well as my next tool. However CCIE lab study does take priority :)

Hosting blog on nullrouter.com site

Ok so I’ve just moved the blog early to it’s permanent home, after working out the ease of installing wordpress software.

Hope to have this blog directly reachable via:
blog.nullrouter.com soon!

On another note should also have the tools section reachable via it’s own URL too!

Post Zero

Hey readers!

This is a blog created to list the updates on the www.nullrouter.com website, that i’ve created.

My goal or idea behind the site is to create a reference guide for those in IP networking, and for those aspirational ones looking at getting into the field. So far I’ve decided to add a Tech Knowledgebase, An on-line tools section to help educate and help those with remembering the basic math formulas and rules associated with network configurations (my excuse to play and learn python), and section on networking certifications to include references for Cisco’s CCNA / CCENT, CCNP, and CCIE. All of these sections are very short for now, but intend for them to grow. So it’s kinda a hobby that I’m doing on the side from my real world work :)

While I intend on keeping my personal details anonymous, here’s a little about me:
I currently work in the wonderful world of networking for a large telecommunications organisation, and as a result get play with various cisco devices, ranging from lowly 2500 routers to the large CRS-1s.

I’ve completed the usual CCNA, CCNP and CCIP over the last 5 years, and currently preparing to complete the CCIE lab within the next 12 months. So i may add some extra updates on my experiences with preperation as we go along here.
I also like to play with Juniper equipment as well.

I have many other interests that are non IT or Networking related if you were wondering!
